Living off grid evokes memories of a humbler time, when we took care of ourselves using the resources found in our immediate surroundings. Taking the leap required to live either entirely or even partially off grid requires a significant amount of planning. Before packing your bug out bag and heading off to your perfect homesteading property, review finances and necessary bills thoroughly. Although you may be reducing your dependency on municipal, corporate and modern world sources, the cost of maintaining your land and home must also be factored into your new off-the-grid budget.
As Off Grid World so aptly states in the below article, “There will be bills. You will need money.” As with most things in life, planning is key to developing a successful off-the-grid existence. If you can’t pay your bills, you can’t sustain your off grid existence, it’s as simple as that. Off the grid typically doesn’t mean free!
